GIVE A GARDEN
Check out the Planting Peace program
One Penny
I have not had the ability to do this sale for a couple of years.
Each year I try to give my perennials and bulbs a thinning and provide them as a resource to a community program.
The Bloomfield House and the Windsor West Citizen's Organization received the donation in 2013 and 2014. In 2015 our garden went to Bridgeview Community Outreach Program Inc.
This year, 2016. I will be using this resource to fund our own programs. All money raised will be used to provide a donation to ONE PENNY and a local charity split 50/50. Our sale brought in a $84.00, $1.00 at a time. Donations were made on Monday, June 13th to The Women's Interval House of Sarnia, ON and Planting Peace of $50.00 each. (I covered the few extra dollars and the exchange rate for Planting Peace which is an American charity.) Over the next couple of days an extra $16.00 was earned which will be placed in our coffers for a future donation. Thank you everyone for your participation.
In 2017 our garden raised $85.00. All the monies will be going to our ONE PENNY program. This year I did not get around to the sale until mid August, not a favourable time for selling plants and we are a few dollars short of the hundred usually raised. A $100.00 donation (US) was made to Planting Peace August 29th. This funded 10,000 deworming treatments that last for 6 months before requiring another dose, for those living without clean water. The parasites consume 20 to 40% of a child's nutrition.

Need to know.
- I provide a bare root unless transporting to Windsor.
- Please bring a plastic tote/bin.
- Plant as soon as possible after receiving.
- Keep watered particularly for the first week or two.
SOME GREEN TIPS
- An electric kettle for outdoor use to kill weeds is the most effective way I have ever found. There is no waiting for a week to see if it works.
- Before you mulch put down newspaper 3 to 4 layers thick. NO WEEDS for over a year and your layer of mulch can be less thick.
- Please be aware that peatmoss is an unsustainable product. Please avoid using.
- Almost anything can be transplanted after a thunderstorm and the storm and the electricity in the air gives the plant a natural boost.
- Full sun is considered to be a minimum of 6 hours.
- I live in Corunna, ON. I do travel once a month or so to Windsor. Pick up would be made in the Lauzon/Tecumseh area.
- I dig out the full order either the day before or the day of the pickup.
- As you can see above Day Lilies are beautiful when they get to be mature plants. We have oranges and rusts. There is no need to divide these, if you do it is a workout. You have to slice into it all around the stems you are taking out. Once established will tolerate dry and full day sun and rarely if ever need water. Only ever take 1/3 rd of the mother plant. In three years you should be able to divide. Rusts are smaller variety. Water for a couple of weeks. Bloom time: July and sometimes will put out a couple of flowers in the fall. $2.00
TIGER LILIES
Multiply in a tight circle with stragglers coming up 6 inches out.
Bloom time: end of June. Great for problem areas or corners. Adaptable to many conditions of light and poor soil. Drought tolerant once established. Creates a weed free zone beneath. To control growth dig up root close to new straggly sprouts once a year. (Get between the main plant and straggler) Grows up to 4 to 5 feet tall. Water well for the first 2 weeks after planting Bloomtime: month of July These take a lot of effort to dig. $2.00 |
Ferns are beginning to die back now. Be careful not to plant too deep. There is a node that wants to be close to the surface.
Ferns need at least 50 % shade and will spread. This is a delicacy in Quebec called Fiddle Heads. When the leaves first leave the ground and are still small and curled is the time to pick. At their height at the end of May and the first week or two of June. Will grow to be 4 ft. 8 bulbs. $1.00 each DECORATIVE JAPANESE GRASS(Center of photo) Grow in clumps through underground runners. Tolerant of drought. Spreads under ground. Dig out any unwanted plants in spring to control. Start growing larger the beginning of May. Keep their colours until Nov. Approximately 4 ft high.. 6 left. $1.00 GROUND PHLOXI love this stuff. They bloom in May covering the whole plant and my yard. I have to say that they do not transplant easily and have to be nursed along for the first couple of years. By the 4th year you will have a plant about 18 to 20 inches across. Very showy! A few blooms in the fall often. Pinks, deep pink and lots of lavender. Mulch heavily around edges when you have the desired shape and size. Transplant in a tight bunch. ***Keep watered for as long as possible. Do not let roots dry before planting. Bloomtime: Beginning of May. As usually happens the colour you get would be a guess as I forget what each is?
Very challenging to transplant. FORGET ME NOTSForget Me Nots are biennials. Grow to be about 4 inches high sending up little spikes that have dozens of small flowers on them. They reseed profusely but one pull elimates them. Roots only go a couple of inches down and these can be relocated at any time with a good rain. New plants will start to grow immediately. Also good for holding down weeds under them while in season. Bloomtime: May $1.00
Can be taken to Windsor DAFFODILS
Daffodils quickly develop into bunches that can be divided every 3 years. Contrary to popular planting advice once they die down they can be dug up and replanted at any time and will reliably appear the next year. Plant a group of 3 or 4 together and by year 3 this will be 14 blooms. Bloomtime: April/May
**Yellow, white and smaller multiple bloom. I sometimes forget which is which and you may end up with any of the three. Available to Windsor 10 for 1.00 |
GRAPE HYACINTHSThese little guys start blooming at the beginning of May. They only grow 4 inches in height and are a bulb that needs to be planted in multiples. They will develop into small mounds. Multiple bulbs needed in one clump for health. Transplant any time they have died down and relocate. Bloomtime: May 2 available. Various sized bulbs. 25 for $1.00 Can bring to Windsor. IRISESPastel orange and purple available. Very limited stock. Mostly orange these are rhizones which need to be very close to the surface to grow. May not get a bloom this year. Bloomtime: June Sold out. $2.00 each WHITE DAISYI don't have a clue what this one is anymore. Grows in a tight circle and will attain 1 foot in height. . Flowers in a couple of weeks.
