About Me
I raised my children in the west end of Windsor on St. Joseph Street. I became involved with the Windsor West Citizens' Organization about a year after I arrived, just as the St. Joseph redevelopment plans were hatching. For about 16 years (not always consistant) the activity saved me from the insanity of my personal life. When they say it takes a village to raise a child. Our family needed the whole city. I appreciated that those services, both professional and Organizations were there and they cared.
I wore many hats at WWCO over the years. Board member, Secretary, Vice and President, co-chair of St. Joseph CARES, a contract position of Volunteer Co-ordinator and finally as Office Management for 3 years.
I loved being involved. I had a job that brought lots of smiles and laughs and good times. It gave me purpose. It stretched my boundries. It gave me confidence and structure and support. WWCO allowed for a variable structure of hours that gave me the ability to support my four children and attend school functions and basketball games, doctors appointments. I was a block or less from home and the kids could always come in the door. The Board was great about giving me paid leave when ill though it wasn't policy.
The WWCO gave my children and many others a lifetime of memories. Summer programs in 3 locations, an After School program that ran for over 20 consecutive years, 35 years of Christmas and other parties. Summer fun days each year for the past 30 years. Craft programs, parenting programs, a food co-op and many more.
Most of you are aware that I have not lived in Windsor for 15 years. My children and grandchildren do and I choose to put my resources in Windsor. My heart is in the city.
I respect the west.
